Piscine Leclerc
In Pantin, near Paris, the Piscine Leclerc was built in 1937 in the Art Deco style.
From a distance, the facade resembles that of a factory. The pool was constructed simultaneously with a water treatment plant for the Compagnie Générale des Eaux. Both buildings were part of a joint construction project and were designed by the same architect, Charles Auray.
The municipal pool benefited from its proximity to the pumping station, which tapped into warm water from deep underground.
Typical of 1930s architecture, the design features rigid, confident lines combined with controlled yet surprising curves.
Pragmatic in form, the space is bathed in light filtered through the glass roof and opaque windows.
Completed in 1975 in Mannheim (Baden-Württemberg), the Collini-Center is an imposing administrative and residential complex. Around 1,300 people live there, in 515 apartments.
The entrance hall leads to part of the city's administration and includes a shopping arcade, a cinema, and a (now closed) spa center. The complex has not been renovated and remains in its original configuration.
The materials, colors, hexagonal shapes, and 60° angles evoke the 1970s.
